This poem is a reflection of the unrest, resilience, and unity that define our fight today. Inspired by the energy of 90s hip-hop; its defiance, its resistance, its call for community. I write from where I stand now, reshaping those messages through my own lived experience.
"I’VE BEEN THINKING" is a meditation on the contradictions we exist within: the pain of oppression, the urgency of reclaiming power, and the necessity of love and solidarity. It speaks to a history of being silenced, of being taken, yet never stopping the scream for justice. At its core, this poem is about the undeniable strength in togetherness; the way we survive through connection, the way we heal by bridging gaps and refusing division.
I write because they want us to forget, to turn against ourselves, to believe the fight is over. But it’s not. My poetry is a voice in the noise, a reminder that our unity has never failed us. If they’ve been trying to end us, then I write so we never let them.
Ugh I love the lines, spacing, and rhythm.. I read it with a deep man voice. Really great.. I used to hate poetry for being too clunky and too wordy... this.. nailed it
I hope you write many more poems. This is so good.
